Talk about art in the Brit government! The stiff, rather serious heart of the British government was depicted in Lego life. There are kids looking on with the press taking pictures of the Prime Minister, police guards and Gordon Brown himself, and all these in a real building at Legoland!
The rather stiff Downing Street is also depicted in Legoland’s miniature of Whitehall. The scene is very detailed and is composed of forty bricks. Gordon Brown’s hair was even specially made, now who could top that, eh? The street is not as accurate though because instead of No.10 being on the left, it was placed on the right. Apart from this very minimal inaccuracy, Downing Street in Legoland was rather smashing. The miniature of Whitehall is made out of 5, 000 building blocks and took the creator (just one guy) a hundred hours to build. Now that is painstakingly fun.
The depiction is quite controversial as well because there is a van waiting at the end of the street and the van’s signage says “Brown’s Removals” suggesting that the Premiere is moving out. According to Legoland, the van arrived in 2007.
Just across the street are a pack of brick reporters with cameras taking a few pictures of the Prime Minister.
The recreation of the city of London is made out of 13 million bricks. The whole section includes the Big Ben and of course the House of Parliament complete with a depiction of Guy Fawkes. Also includes barrels of gunpowder to boot.
Now that is art imitating life.
