Lego Batman is one of Lego’s themed products of building block toys. It was first released in 2006 based on the DC Comic superhero, Batman. This Lego set include the different characters in the Batman series along with the vehicles and even selected scenes from the Batman comics and movies alike. At present, there are 13 sets available, 10 of which come with a Batman minifigure, with varying suit colors (gray, black, or blue). Besides Batman, each set comes with a different villain. The first set released had Catwoman while the latest had The Joker. Some sets also have Batman’s allies: one set had Batman’s sidekick Robin and another had Batman’s assistant, Alfred. And as a bonus, the boxes of the sets have a Batman comic strip at the back.
The designs of these features came from different ideas. For instance, Batman’s primary car the Batmobile was as sleek as the Batmobiles in the Batman movies made by director Tim Burton while the Bat-tank, another one of Batman’s vehicles, seems to look more like the Batmobile in The Dark Knight Returns, Christoper Nolan’s Batman film. Aside from these vehicles, Lego Batman also featured new automobiles such as the Batman Dragster and Batman’s Buggy. There is also a hovercraft-like Batboat.
Aside from the block toys, Lego also released a video game based on the comic character. Lego Batman: The Video Game was introduced in 2008 and it was based upon other Lego video games like Lego Star Wars and Lego Indiana Jones. The game was developed for the Xbox 360, Playstation 2 and 3, Playstation Portable, Nintendo DS, and Wii consoles. This video game was released along with four new Lego Batman toy sets and so far, no new sets have been released in the market since then while the ones that are in existence are not being produced anymore.
