Lego mansions are great not only because they are made out of the Danish blocks but because most Lego mansions are well designed and boast beautiful gardens and pools.

Mansions are large houses that are usually over 740 square meters. In old Europe, houses with lots of rooms and a ballroom were called mansions but today, large dwelling places are aptly called mansions even if they do not boast a ballroom area.

Etymology

Let us learn the history of the word Mansion. Derived from an old French term, the word mansion originates from the Latin Mansio which means “to remain”.  During the existence of the Roman Empire, a place called a mansion was the official stopping point for Roman officials. These areas are where cities were placed. The Scots also make use of the word but use it as manse. Manse is defined as a large property that is commissioned to a minister of a parish. The word manor used for manor houses is derived from the same root but these mansions were usually given to landlords.

Country Houses

Country houses are olden mansions. They were defined as unfortified castles. Later on, properties called mansions evolved into modern day mansions and villas. It was in the 16th century when country homes without ample fortification were introduced. Along with the no-fence style came large parks and driveways. 3 centuries later, Europeans who journeyed to the new world built new types of mansions. These mansions were smaller compared to European ones. Most of them still boasted gothic architecture. Later on, as America modernized, these mansions were demolished and replaced by skyscrapers. This is particularly true in New York City where all the mansions that used to line Fifth Avenue were demolished after the 19th century depriving the Big Apple a boulevard of mansions to rival those in London, Rome and Paris.
