They say that a hero can save us..or not. There are many superheroes that can save the world whether in real life or in the comic books or books they belong to.
The world of Lego however is full of heroes and this includes Hercules.
Although there is no mythology set released by the Lego Group, Hercules is one of the most famous heroes in Greek mythology and is one of the favorite subjects for Lego builders.
Like many of Zeus illegitimate children, Hercules also known as Herakles claimed immortality by accident. Zeus and Athena tricked Hera into letting Hercules drink her milk at birth –giving the uber strong hero immortality he was not supposed to have.
Another great Lego creation i.e. a custom minifig of the Greek hero can be seen at The Contaminated. The creation comes with other heroes and celebrities.
This includes French martyr and saint Jeanne d’Arc more popularly known as Joan of Arc. The page also includes musical heroes and artists such as John Lennon and Leonardo da Vinci among others.
Now back to Zeus’ son Hercules. The demigod turned immortal is a very strong individual and by strong it means he can kill monsters with his bare hands. But what many do not know is Hercules’ Germanic association. Tacitus recorded that Hercules visited the Germanic lands and they considered him as a hero. The Romans also associate themselves with Hercules.
Hercules is also a common motif for many medals and collector coins. If you have seen the 20 euro Baroque silver coin, you will notice that the silver coin issued in 2002 has the Greek hero on it that is why it is not really surprising for Lego enthusiasts to make Lego creations inspired by Hercules. It seems that the legend of the demigod will live on for a very long time.
