Do you remember that Lego box that contained a blasphemous image against Islam?
Back in 2006, a bogus Lego box was posted allover the internet with Prophet Muhammad in a compromising position. The text in the box was severely offensive but in response, the Danish toymaker issued an apology for the authentic-looking box to all Muslims allover the globe.
It is interesting to note that not everything on the web is genuine –even photos are not genuine anymore but what is more interesting is how we as human beings all behave i.e. fighting each other or shaming each other online and offline.
Parents should always keep an eye open when it comes to things like these especially when it comes to Lego. If possible, it would be best to browse for Lego sets at the Lego website to get authentic items and not be misled by those who have malicious intentions.
The Lego Group stressed out that there is no such Lego theme and it even posted the announcement at Lego.com.
The lesson? The lesson here is that people of all ages should always learn how to respect other people no matter their colour or their religion. Mutual respect is important to keep things peaceful. Respect for one another is sometimes what most of us lack. One thing is for sure though, if you teach your children about respect they will learn how to respect other people and they will do this even as grown ups.
The pre-emptive apology of the Lego group to the Muslim community reflects the outlook of the company and it’s not only because it might blow over as bad publicity but because they do not want Muslims who also love the bricks to be driven away by people who use Lego to either offend or shame other people.
