A Lego Epiphany

Lego Trivia

Yesterday, while playing with Lego blocks at the local Lego store, there were a few children who were having a rather lively debate.

It was not much of a debate really, it was a declaration of who was more powerful. One child said, “To these Lego I am quite great, I must be so tall to them!” while another said, “Oh but I am taller than you, I must be a giant!”. After the boys said their little speeches, one of the girls in the group said, “Keep quiet. The Lego men think you are noisy. Some of them are sleeping. Come let’s build a bridge before they wake up.” And there it was –the inevitable epiphany of testosterone ruining the world or maybe another epiphany of how men see God.

Since it is lent, let us have a dose of Lego Theology. If Lego men think for example that the children who own them are noisy giants who keep roaring (crying) then it may be high time for these giants ala gods to transform themselves into a Lego man or woman for the Lego populace to get to know them. This is a What Would Jesus Do situation and if kids had such supernatural powers, they would do just that so that their Lego men and women will understand that they are not just some noisy bunch of kids but kids who love their Lego.

Although this may be interpreted as just a reflection of the Christian belief systems it is interesting to note that in mythology, the gods walked amongst us too. Okay well they impregnated some of our women and produced demigods in the process but it’s about the same right? i.e. their aim was to live among us? Fine, that might not be a good argument I can feel it so let’s just give it up for Lego for inspiring these realizations not only in our kids but to eavesdropping grown men and women who listen intently to children’s conversations in a Lego shop –in a fascinated sort of way not the illegal, despicable way. Thank goodness to Lego, eh?
