Vlad Tepes may have been a ruthless murderer and can even be considered as a rather barbaric torture master, but he also fell in love.
Yes, Dracula fell in love! Isn’t that great? Even the forces of evil could not thwart a man like Vlad Tepes to fall in love. This is something extraordinary especially now centuries later that Vlad Dracula is still very much known as a force of darkness. No, he did not fall in love with evil or anything like that. The Prince loved his first wife but before her there was this charming and very beautiful Saxon girl named Katharina Siegel from Brasov whom Vlad Tepes fell in love at first sight.
Unlike what is depicted in the movies –Vlad Dracula was a handsome man –he was described by Bonifius, a chronicler that he had green eyes like that of a dragon and definitely a ladies man of his time.

Before becoming the ruler of Wallachia, Vlad Tepes was desperately in love with Katharina but he could not marry her because it was against Saxon customs. When his first wife, a noblewoman, died, he came back for Katharina with the intention to marry her. It is unfortunate that he was arrested November 1462 because other suitors of Katharina wanted Vlad to be taken away. These suitors started spreading rumours about Vlad’s purpose in going to their region that is why Vlad was arrested.
Vlad later on got a second wife. It is also said in other accounts that Vlad also loved his first wife Juztina deeply. She actually committed suicide because the Turks were already at the gates while Vlad was away. She allegedly flung herself off the castle so as not to be captured alive. The story cannot be confirmed though since there are only very few accounts of this event.
