Love, Love Me Do

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Love is in the air in Legolandia and it is now time to listen to the classic love songs yet again. Now if you think Valentines should only be celebrated on February 14th, in Legoland -this is not the case.

Legolandia celebrates Valentines to the hilt and the Lego Beatles’ “Love Me Do” performance can prove it. Lego minifigs are now in the mood for lots of loving and this can be seen in many Lego videos. The Lego”Love Me Do” was created by Ricardo Luis Guerra, a YouTuber and his clip is a reminder of how good it is to love and be loved. The Lego enthusiast is also a Beatles fan and makes Lego animation on his spare time. The “Love Me Do” video is one of his best and many Lego fanatics are waiting for more Lego animation from this guy.

Another proof for love’s presence in the Lego atmosphere is a Lego animation done by Ozi. Ozi is YouTuber Kassettendeck’s friend and Kassettendeck posted Ozi’s “Power of Lego Love” in the video sharing website. The clip is a 5 minute mini Lego movie originally made for a wedding -sweet right? Although there is no script and the story can only be told through the different background songs, the “Power of Lego Love” is still a masterpiece in its own right. However, basing on the comments, you’d either love it or hate it. There shouldn’t be room for hate though since we should all be celebrating love.

Lego love stories abound -some are done by children, some by adults. There are clips on Taylor Swift’s most popular song “Love Story” aptly titled “Lego Love Story” but these Lego animations are not as good as the ones done by Ozi and Guerra. They are still worth mentioning because this is yet another proof that Lego love is in the air.

Circle Circle Dot Dot and Other Lego Videos

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Circle Circle Dot Dot is a playground song for kids that supposedly functions as a way to immunize kids from cooties. The song has been reinvented as a rap song though and Nate Burr, a Lego animator, did a Lego music video for it. “Circle Circle Dot Dot” is a song by Stu Stone and Jamie Kennedy from their album Blowin’ Up.

Nate Burr a.k.a Blunty won Jamie Kennedy and Stu Stone’s contest for homemade music videos through the Lego stop motion “Circle Circle Dot Dot”. This video is a fun one and it is well-made as well, Blunty deserves kudos for this one. The song is cool too so bring these two (Lego animation and Circle Circle Dot Dot) cool things together and you got an addictive Lego stop motion music video. Circle Circle Dot Dot was released in 2006 under JKSS Records.

Another rather entertaining Lego stop motion music video is Inglis93’s Lego Star Wars Gangsta Rap from the popular “Star Wars Gangsta Rap” written by Chris Crawford and Jason Brannon.  Thomas Lee, an animator discovered the song in the year 2000 and utilized it to develop his Flash skills. The flash video was Star Wars Gangsta Rap’s first music video. Lee later on showed the video to Bentframe and together they formed BentTV.

There are many Lego versions of the rap song and they are all equally adorable even if the lyrics are gangsta. Well, nothing is too gangsta for Lego minifigs. In fact, there are even funny Lego videos that talk about Lego porn. This is not something that parents would like their kids to watch though. One example of such a video is Legos Gone Wild“posted by YouTube user daneboe. The video is about the hottest Lego chicks that are willing to bare their bricks in front of the camera. This funny video from GagFilms may be something Lego enthusiasts would not approve of but well, it is worth seeing and not really offensive. Children should not see the video though.

Lego Cops

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Legoland is made up of Lego towns and cities. In these towns and cities, there are always Lego Police Departments and they do a lot of routinary police work day in and day out. To depict the life of cops in Legoland, Legolord118, a Lego stop animation creator did a Lego semi-documentary/comedy about Lego’s cops.
Now this is a new story, at least not only Superman and all the other superheroes and villains live in Legoland, the lot of the population is composed of regular folks and that includes the cops, crooks, teenage kids, mothers, etc.
The stop animation Lego film “Lego Cops” is an entertaining piece of work and it comes in 2 parts. Hopefully, Legolord118 will make new installments of the series soon.
Another Lego animation inspired by the LPD (Lego Police Department) is a battle between a bunch of Lego guys wanting to take over the government and the police. This animated film was created by Legomaniac Jazzofutah, a YouTuber. The Lego animation is about 3 years old so the effects are a bit rusty for our time but still entertaining nonetheless.
A Lego animation of the Lego SWAT is also in YouTube and it is a rather intense video of Lego SWAT in action. Imagine all those Lego good guys shooting at the bad guys and that includes car chases, the works. Now that is cool. The Lego animation was posted by Seongmanlee, another Lego lover and YouTuber.
MichaelHickox, another Lego animator also did a video on the life of the Lego Police. The story is about a man who tried to rob a bank. The police chase is without music but with full sound effects. This video, like all the other Lego Police inspired stop animation films, is rather impressive.
There are of course other videos of the Lego police out there waiting to be discovered. What makes these creations beautiful though is that, the police are not celebrities, they are regular men, dealing with crooks and criminal on a daily basis.

Lego Matrix: Boyd and Ilett’s Accuracy

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

If you are a fan of “The Matrix” and of Lego, you better watch the work done by Trevor Boyd and Steve Ilett. Their frame by frame Lego reproduction of one of the scenes in Matrix is totally awesome. It’s too accurate that you would think these guys do not have much to do. The truth is, they had to work for 440 hours, probably not sleeping for quite a long time. You have to give it to them though, they are rather talented.

What is really unbelievable is the work put into this. Ilett and Boyd worked on the video from August of 2008 to August 2009.For those who think you have spotted a discrepancy, watch the video again through the comparison video these talented guys have provided. These guys studied each and every part of the scene and their work is extraordinary. If there were a Lego awards this work of art will surely take the cake.

Their first work is pitiful, at least, according to them. Their supposedly pitiful Lego animation is not at par with the Matrix one but very good nonetheless.

More on Lego Matrix Trinity Help
The two did a frame accurate clip and that means 900 frames for 44 seconds of footage. During the first few days of Lego Matrix Trinity Help’s making, Ilett and Boyd planned to do everything just by using a camera i.e. no special effects, no Photoshop tricks, no wire-removal. However, the two regretted this because it took a while for one scene to be finished.
Unfortunately for Legomaniacs, these guys won’t be doing the whole trilogy since it would be too time consuming.
