The Secrets To Castle Building

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

Let’s first discuss the issue about the big, gray wall. You probably have built one already because 1.) you are building a fortress for your castle 2.) it looks imposing 3.) it protects your castle from invading troops. We have to admit however that building such a Lego creation can be boring but hey, if you do not use the same brick color, you will be able to build a rather artistic and realistic wall.

Here are a few examples:

This is a fine example of a mottled brick wall. Yes this is a castle but take a look at the bricks, they do not have the same shade right?

You can mix a few bricks together to create this effect. If you want to have a gray wall however, you can still get different shades of gray. Here is one thing to remember, old bricks turn yellow as they age so you can put a few yellows in the mix as well. Sounds good? Now let’s move on to castle building.

Once you are done with your wall, you can now concentrate on the castle itself. What good is a wall if it is not protecting anything, right? While building your castle, you notice that corners look real odd if they do not have color variations. According to experts in Lego castle-making, a variation of colors at the corners of your castle can create a real cool effect. Take this castle from classic-castle.com as an example.

Another tip from the masters is shape variation. Try to give your castle a distinctive shape and do not stick to making a rectangular one because it would look pretty boring if you do so. Think Lego Coliseum.

A little inspiration will go a long way too. Take a look at the beautiful castles in Europe and pattern your creation to these castles.

Lego fanatics, enthusiasts, hobbyists, or people who just can’t get over their love for the plastic bricks: get ready to eat your Lego! No, Lego is not going to release edible Lego bricks but you can! Lego cakes have been the staple party food for Lego-loving kid parties. However, if you love the idea of a Lego cake, you don’t have to gate crash  your neighbor’s children’s party. You can make your own Lego cake with your everyday cake ingredients. Betty Crocker’s recipe for the Lego cake is one of the easiest to follow and using ingredients you can find right in your kitchen.

Difficulty: Easy
Things you’ll need:

1 Betty Crocker cake mix,

water,

vegetable oil,

eggs,
2 containers of Betty Crocker Rich and Creamy Vanilla frosting,

yellow, blue, and red food coloring,

a tray,

12 marshmallows, cut crosswise.
Step 1

Following the cake mix instructions, mix it with the water, vegetable oil, and eggs, and pour it into a greased baking pan. Afterwards, put the pan in your preheated oven to make your basic cake.
Step 2

While the cake mix is in the oven, prepare your frosting. This will serve as the Lego cake’s paint. Since the recipe calls for three colors, prepare small bowls for each color that will be made. Prepare a cup of red frosting, 1 cup for yellow, and 2/3 cup of blue. Leave some frosting uncolored for later.
Step 3

Take out the cake mix from the oven, and let it cool. Cut the top to make it flat, and cut the whole thing into thirds. Cut the last third in half to make it square. You now have blocks for your Lego.
Step 4

Frost your blocks with one color per block. To make the ‘pegs’ and attaching them on your cake, take the halved-marshmallows and frost it. Attach them on top of your frosted blocks with toothpicks and making sure it’s the same color as the blocks they are on. Use six for the rectangular pieces, and 4 for the square. Congratulations on your Lego cake!

How to Make a Lego Police Car

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Police is essential in every city to maintain decorum. Without the police, how can a Lego city function without the Lego police to look after it? The Lego police would need a police station and a few cars to use for their patrol. Making a Lego police car is easy and a fun activity if you have the time for it. Make a Lego police car today to ensure that the whole of your Lego city is safe. Equip your Lego police officers with Lego police cars by following these simple steps.

You must take a look at police vehicles in your county. Taking a look at them is a great source of inspiration in making your Lego police cars. Creating a brand new design for your Lego police car however is even better. Think about it for some time before you start building. Decide on the nature of the car -whether you’d make a truck or a zippy slim one seat car. Normally cops work in pairs so you can make the police cars with two seats. Also, there should be space to ferry arrested people so be sure to make room for the backseat.  Make sure that the Lego police cars you build fit the roads they have to travel on though. Otherwise, these cars  will be useless to your Lego Police Department.

The procedure should be started from building the wheel base. Take a long plate to cover the length of the car and space to put the wheels on it. After putting the wheelbase, put the wheels on it. Now it is time for the bumpers and the lights. Keep the bumper at an optimal height off the ground. Headlights and backlights are required. Since you are making a Lego police car for your city you can install blue lights at the top. Move to the inside of the car. Attach the seats for the cops and add seats for the felons.

Come to work on the outside. Attach the doors and cover off the entire car with the walls leaving no space in between bumpers, doors and any visible area. Finally, come to the painting part of your car. Blue and white are the most common colors for police cars. You can choose a different colored car to patrol your Lego city if you want. Just keep the color the same for the walls. Put in place the windshield and the rear window. Put a flat roof to keep the siren on it. Choose the clothes for your Lego police officers as you wish.
