Building Your Own Lego Sports Car

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

A Lego sports car is the ultimate fantasy for a Lego fan. Very simple to complex designs of Lego sports car can be created. Lego has a history of car models and is also contracted with motor racing giants Ferrari in making replicas.

If there has a been a particular sports car that just takes your breath away then Lego gives you the opportunity to create a miniature replica of it. Begin with the picture of your favorite car in your mind. Draw it on paper to be as accurate as possible. If you do not have one in mind, just visit any website that has design software you can use. Download it and use it to make a car virtually before using your Lego pieces to create one. The Lego models are usually one figure models to accommodate the driver. A passenger figure is placed at the back in some models. If you want to use two Lego figures for the front of the car, you will have to think about the modifications required.

Use a cardboard and start building your Lego car inside it. A towel placed on a hard surface can also be used to prevent the Lego pieces from falling off. Make the base of the wheels first. There are preset designs available for single Lego figure cars. Simple tires will require one plate with two studs at the end. Pins and larger wheels are needed to hold complex tires. Put the Lego figures in after the wheel base is completed. Start building around the Lego figures since they are supposed to be inside. A seat is not necessary for a Lego figure to perch upon.  Start with the bumpers and make you way in to build the rest of the car. Make an engine if it pleases you. Add doors. Roof is an option you can avoid it if you build a convertible.

Lego Castle

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Want to try your hand at building a Lego castle? The Lego castle kit will help you get through this task smoothly. You will be very satisfied after having built your very own Lego castle, although of course this Lego building activity may be harder for some, easy for others.

Lego castles can be made in many different ways depending on your level. Lego bricks are used to build simple castles and the modifications can be thought of later as you get familiar with it. Follow some of the steps below if you are new to building Lego castles.

Firstly, visualize in your mind the type of castle you want to make. You can draw the outline on a piece of paper and use it as a guide (more like a building plan) especially if you are new to this. Use the Lego castle kit to build an original Lego castle or start from the beginning to make one completely different from the original castle. Making a castle according to your own design is a good way to work on your creativity. Use a base or platform to determine the size of the castle and the surroundings. Use the Lego bricks to build your masterpiece. Make the Lego castle as you see fit. Be creative for the design of the tower. It is your castle anyway and you can give it any design you like.

Determine the number of floors in your castle after fixing the height of the entire castle. Then start working on one floor at a time and accessorizing it completely from the inside and the outside as well. Finish the work on one floor before starting work on the next. You can add things later as well if you want. Build a prison for keeping captured soldiers from the war. Build a stable for the horses. Once finished inside, start on the greenery on the outside. Make trees and bushes or even fruit gardens and a river with a bridge to complete your kingdom.

Lego Valentine’s Cake

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

For those who love to bake, cakes are the best gifts for Valentine’s Day but what’s this got to do with Lego bricks? Well you can make a Lego-inspired cake that is edible of course. Not only kids can have some Lego fun, adults who love these Danish bricks are also entitled to have a Lego party.
Katie Lemberg and her mom developed a rather fun idea of integrating Legos in their parties and you can do this with you Valentine’s party as well. In honor of 9 year old Katie’s favorite building blocks, her mom made a Lego cake.
Here are the ingredients
1 sheet cake (13 x 9 x 2 inch)
Food coloring (red for Valentine’s Day)
8 cupcakes
Toothpicks
White frosting

Instructions
Turn your cake upside down and then place your cupcakes on top of the cake. Hold the cupcakes with the toothpicks and then frost it with the color you want. The cake should look like the photo shown here.

Of course your cake should be red if you want a Valentine’s theme for your party. If you want a heart shaped cake for Valentine’s Day you can make a cake molded out of your Lego base and then cut it into a heart afterwards. Use red frosting and voila! You have a heart shaped cake to enjoy. Whether you are planning a big Valentine’s party or just a simple dinner for two, making your Valentine’s Day special through Lego has never been so easy. All you have to do is let your imagination run wild and of course use your Lego base platform as a mold.

If you want more Valentine’s Day party ideas that are inspired by Lego you can try adding gift bags or take away bags for all your friends. Fill it with Lego hearts. They will remember your Valentine’s party, that is for sure, because it is unique.

How to Make a Lego Car

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Making a Lego car shouldn’t be too difficult as long as you know how to use your creativity, resourcefulness, and collection of Lego blocks. The following guide is only one way of creating a car out of Lego; after figuring out the basics, you can come up with new ideas that you can use to make your Lego car original.

First, you begin with two pairs of wheels; one large pair and another small pair. Fasten transparent hubcaps to the tail of the wheels at the back and a small rectangular piece underneath the back wheels. This will serve as the Lego car’s tailpipe.

Second, connect two or more rectangular blocks to the bases of the other two wheels. These blocks should be two studs wide and at most nine studs long. Afterwards, construct the car’s main chassis by using more rectangular Lego blocks. At the nose of the car, fasten one two studs by one stud piece where you would then put two round, transparent blocks. This will be the car’s headlights.

Third, just continue constructing the car’s body using different Lego blocks. To make it look more interesting, you can use blocks of different colors and edges.

Lastly, connect an engine block on the car’s nose. Put slim blocks on the sides to serve as doors. You can also attach a spoiler on the car’s tail and a transparent windshield.

During this process, make sure that the pieces are securely attached to one another to ensure that no block will not get detached while you are playing with it. If the pieces are secure and correctly fastened, the Lego car would be able to roll on the floor the same way as any other toy car would. In case it doesn’t, check underneath the wheels for any obstructions that may stop the wheels from working properly.

Building Your Own Lego Town

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Every child or collector wants to have his or her own Lego Town. Who doesn’t? Lego Towns are cute, fun to build and fun to look at. Lego Towns come in many forms and sizes and of course styles. One may opt to build a Pirate Lego Town where all inhabitants almost always say “Aaaar!” or a modern Lego Town where there are skyscrapers and modern architecture. Whatever your choice of Lego Town, be it Old World or Harry Potter World, the platform is the same.

The first thing that you should do is to pick the largest base plate you have. If that large Lego base plate is not enough, you can combine the small ones so you have a larger area for your Lego Town. It is recommended that you start with a green base plate or a grey one rather than combining a few small ones. The base should preferably be either a 15” x 15” plate or a 10” x 10” one.

Create simple rectangular houses by putting your Lego bricks on top of each other. Do this in such a way that it looks like you are building a brick house so your Lego houses will not look as plain. Apart from that, layering them this way will keep the house more secure and your walls will be sturdier. Make sure that you leave openings for your windows, and doors though. Be sure that your houses are tall enough to accommodate your minifigs.

Make a “V” for your roof but if you want a different design, you can make two “Vs” clamp together and add a chimney.

If you do not like your designs much, you can get prettier designs online where you get full blown instructions for a pretty, little house. There are many different styles to choose from depending on your theme.

In your Lego Town, make sure that there is a police station, a hospital, a few stores and shops, a hotel and of course a park. Create this are where children can play and where there are lots of trees and flowers. Do not forget the park benches and the Lego animals playing around the park.
