Bionicle : Lego cum Transformer?

August 20th, 2009

Warning Lego fans this is not your usual Lego. The bionicle, a transformer-like Lego vehicle uses different unique parts that are not included in other Lego lines. And there are no minifigs, call that shocking. The bionicle much better described as robot-looking Lego are the main characters of the said line.

Some claim that the bionicle is just too simple unlike the other collections since it only has very few parts per figure. In defense of the robot ala transformer, the bionicle has a very complex history. You can take a look at its colorful history in video games, comic books and even novels. In fact, the bionicle is so complex that there is a need for its own encyclopedia to know what it is all about. You may take a look at this encyclopedia at www.bionicle.wikia.com.

The Bionicle or Biological Chronicle is a story about bio-mechanical beings. The story lasting for thousands of years in the planet Aqua Magna –a planet divided into different civilizations and climate. The story mainly revolved around the Toa and the Matoran. Most creatures in the world of bionicle wore masks they called Kanohi that give them super powers. These powers were used both for destructive and constructive purposes. The bionicle vehicles we now know of today just come from one species. In fact there are many other types of bionicles i.e. the Toa, Warrior, Mistika, Glatorian, Matoran, Heroes, Villains, Legends, Rahi, machines, Barraki, and Hydruka.

Bionicle Tidbits

Mata Nui is the great creator of most of the beings in the Matoran universe.

The great cataclysm in the Matoran universe happened when Mata Nui was put to eternal sleep by Teridax.
Rahi are the animals in Aqua Magna, they are similar to animals here on earth.

The bionicle appeals to a lot of people because it’s something very different compared to the usual Lego collections.

Ninja Assassin Trailer and Legos

August 19th, 2009

TrailerAddict has posted the official Lego trailer for the Lego movie Ninja Assassin. The trailer is more like the original film only in Lego. This ultra-magnificent idea has tickled the fancy of many Lego fans and most of my nephews. And now my nephews are asking me when we could go to the cinema and watch the whole movie. They are referring to the Lego one of course.

Ninja Assassin –the real movie will be released by November 25th 2009. The movie is about the deadliest assassins in the entire world –Raizo being the best among them. Picked up from the streets as a young boy, Raizo was turned into a deadly human weapon, a trained killer for the Ozunu Clan. Haunted by his good friend’s execution, he leaves the underground society and breaks free, silently waiting for a chance at revenge. Meanwhile in Berlin, a Europol agent stumbles on a money trail that links several murders to an untraceable secret network. Intrigued, she tries to trace these murders putting her life in danger along the way. The clan sends a group of assassins to silence the Europol agent. Learning this, Raizo saves her but he knows the enemies will not stop until the both of them are dead.

The movie is a serious action film but was transformed by Keshen8, an avid fan of the world famous building blocks and a Youtuber. He said in his Youtube account that he made the Lego animation because he is anticipating ht release of Ninja Assassin.

Sorry Lego fans, there is no Ninja Assassin Lego movie but we could clamor for one right in front of the Lego office. Now isn’t that an idea? Lego fans like me have been waiting for a Lego movie for a very long time and maybe creations such as what Keshen8 did should be a signal for the very first Lego film.

Lego Gives in, Lego Movie Coming Soon

August 18th, 2009

Color me shocked for Lego’s first movie ever. After so many years of waiting in vain for the very first Lego movie –it is finally coming to theaters near you very soon.

Legomaniacs have gone loco over the up and coming Lego movie. Talk about the movie has been what’s buzzing the Lego world and of course, Lego fans. The conceptualization of the Lego movie has been going on for years but the Lego Group did not approve of any of the first ideas from filmmakers; the reason being, Lego wants to protect its reputation and the reputation of the famous building blocks. That is of course understandable because Lego is known for its wholesomeness and kid friendliness.

The good news is there is a Lego movie coming soon and I say that again and again to not only convince the reader but to convince myself as well because this report from Variety magazine has truly stimulated my imagination.

As Variety magazine reports, the Lego Group has finally approved of an action-adventure film set in the ultra-cool Lego world. The film according to the buzz online will be a mix of animation and live action. Now that is what I would call fun, Lego, animated fun.

Lego fans all around the world are excited about this new development, not only because it is the very first Lego movie but it will be yet another genre like its videogames. It is for sure something to watch out for. For non-Lego fans which are most probably just a tiny portion of the world’s population, this Lego movie might change your mind.

This news will of course excite those who have made their own Lego movies and posted them on Youtube because finally there is a real Lego movie that they can watch in the cinema.

Lego: Beating the recession

August 18th, 2009

The recession seems to have poisoned, invaded and, in some cases, decimated nearly every industry and business. However it would appear that our much loved Lego has defied conventional logic and the credit crunch by showing sales are at an all time high! Yes, really!

Why has Lego thrived and prospered during one of the darkest economic climates for decades? Well for one parents are turning to long lasting and more durable toys as they aim to save money. Gone are the days (for now anyway) when parents splash out on a product that will break and be dismantled 20 minutes after it is purchase; with Lego they don’t have that worry. The Lego Group has announced profits of £469m in the first half of 2009, quite extraordinary in this day and age.

Indeed it isn’t just Lego that is experiencing a renaissance of sorts; traditional toys are seeing a rise in sales too.

Marko Ilincic, the managing director of Lego UK said:

“Parents spend lots of money on plastic imported toys, but they only do what it says on the tin. But children take Lego to pieces, build them up again and add it to other Lego, and that gives it longevity.”

The recession has not been good for many things but seeing as Lego recorded a deficient of £144m in 2004 it seems that Lego has been a rare beneficiary of the credit crunch.

Lego Star Wars with a Twist

August 15th, 2009

Lego and Star Wars fan Mike Stimpson has merged his two favorite things to create Lego Star Wars photography. Before Lego Star Wars photography though, there was of course Lego Star Wars –these cute, unsuspecting little toys would never have thought they would be a medium for creativity.

The photos, a mix of Darth Vader and Stormtrooper in popular movie scenes, are rather entertaining; bringing out Stimpson’s uniqueness and “geekiness” if there is such a word. These movie scenes however, do not come from the many Star Wars movies but come from other popular movies like the 1997 blockbuster hit Titanic.

Other photos include day to day scenes which makes Lego Star Wars more interesting than it already is. Mike Stimpson has a vast collection of different Lego Star Wars photos for sale, as Stimpson said in redbubble, “I take quite a lot of Lego pictures”. He sure does. There is even one photo of Stormtrooper enjoying the tranquility of the woods and the river while he is fishing. Now who would have thought Stormtrooper goes fishing on the weekends?

The British photographer also likes to take pictures of other things, as he said in his Flicker, “I do occasionally take photos of other things, I mean, with the amount of macro equipment I possess it would frankly be rude not to take the odd flower photo.” Mike Stimpson is also known as Balakov in Flicker.

For the avid Lego fan, anything created with Lego is interesting but if you love both Lego and Star Wars and can appreciate Stimpson’s comic and funny streak –you are for sure going to love all his Lego Star Wars photos.
